Farmer's market planned for Oglesby
There may not be a supermarket in Oglesby but some folks are organizing a farmer’s market. Oglesby will join towns like La Salle and Ottawa to offering homegrown fruits and vegetables, along with baked goods and plants. The first farmer’s market is planned for Thursday, July 31 from four until seven in the city parking lot at Dale and Walnut Streets. If you would like to sell your goods, they’re looking for vendors.
Governor declares 3 counties disaster areas
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Governor Rod Blagojevich has declared three northwestern Illinois counties disaster areas after severe storms downed hundreds of trees, damaged structures and knocked out power to thousands. Bureau, Henry and Rock Island counties each sustained widespread damage in Monday's storms. The state disaster declaration makes state resources available for debris cleanup, security and other public safety issues.
Open house today for wind turbines
More wind turbines are on their way for La Salle County. Invenergy has just finished putting up 66 turbines near Grand Ridge and now they’re looking for 100 more to the south and east. The second phase of the Grand Ridge wind farm will be discussed today from 1pm until 3 pm at the Marseilles Lion’s Club. It’s part of an open house to learn more about the project.
